Default Maya MR displacement help

hi there,

I'm using MR displacement for the first time and I've run into a couple of issues, it would be great if I can get some help.

My current settings are:
SubD Approx
Approx Method: Spatial
Max SubD's: 5
Length: .2

I did a test to use a displacement map for bricks and the row where the shadow (raytracing) edges fall on the bricks, the horizontal lines of the mortar appear a bit skewed.

Also, when I try and increase the the max subdivisions I see some weird clipping on the geometry. I disconnected the displacement node and just did a render of the color map with the SubD Approx and this is what I got:

Thanks much!

If you are getting clipping, did you check your render report to see if there are warnings about the max displace setting?

By subd approx, are you saying you applied a subd approx to a poly?
That creates a ccmesh

Or that you are creating a subd primitive to begin with?

Are you using view units? Ie, in that case 0.2 pixels is extremely small.
