Default Mental Ray Standalone for Maya 2013 Download Available?

    Hi,

Simple question that is driving me nuts..

Where can I download mental ray standalone for Maya 2013 (win7 x64)? I own the Entertainment Suite Premium on subscription and for the life of me I can't find the download link anywhere. I have mr satellite listed in my subscription downloads but the standalone version is nowhere to be found. Is the 2013 compatible version even available (I imagine it is by now) and is it still distributed via the subscription center?

Maybe it is just my account (I emailed AD to ask also) but I wanted to ask here to see if anyone knew the answer. Thanks,

    -Nick

It's a separate product not part of the Entertainment Suite. Satellite is considered part of Maya as well as the 5 render node licenses with Maya (that might have changed, was 5 for a floating license I thought.) This is through Maya Batch.

Last I checked I could get Standalone from RFX. Like most Autodesk products you have to go through a re-seller.

But since it's not part of the suite, that's probably why you don't see it on your download page.

The Autodesk mental ray Standalone is a separate product, and not tied to a specific DCC. It is intended to be used in render farms and server installations independent of a DCC, therefore using own floating licenses.

    Hi Guys,

Thanks so much for clearing this up - I read a whole bunch of threads about licensing/render nodes/etc. and I think I confused myself! I was just messing around with this script from the Maya forum but looks like it is a moot point.

Yes, that script assumes you have purchased a mental ray standalone. Production houses with render farms often work this way to ensure that what is on an artist's workstation is exactly what will be put on the render farm.
