    Default Volumetric Fur Samples

Hi. I'm trying to render long fur on a character's head (using fur as hair). Volumetric fur is much quicker than hair primitives, but I get flickering, even with the Volume Fur Samples (Fur description Attribute Editor/Mental Ray tab/Volume Fur) turned up to the maximum 8. I've tried typing in figures larger than 8, but the thing just defaults back to 8.

Is there a way of overriding this setting to get 16 or even 32 samples? I reckon I could lose the flickering that way.

    Thank you for your help.

Which version of Maya are you using? Might be easier to use geometry and and the rasterizer or Unified Sampling if you have a newer Maya.
