    Default Maya Shader Problem

    Hello,

i created a simple scene in maya 2009 with a standart phong shader, which includes a color, normal and specular texture. Then i exported it with Reality Designer and ran it with RealityServer 3. I attached two files of both renderings, one in maya and the other was rendered with the default renderer of RealityServer.

My Problem is, that default renderer seems to ignore the nomal and specular maps. But in the bottom left view it seems like there is some specular map but no normal map. this is pretty confusing me.

Am i right that alle shaders are mapped to meta SL shaders within reality designer?

i hope you can help me =)
    thanks

    Hi Flo,

Sorry for the late reply. The mapping from max/maya is not a 1-1 mapping unfortunately and exactly what happens depends on what base shaders are used and what connections are made. Bump mapping is currently only supported in a limited way in Maya, see the following instructions from the RealityDesigner 3.0.0.55 release notes:

    1. Create a mia_material_x material.

    2. In the bump section of mia_material_x, assign a "Bump 2d" render node
(in the Utilities/General Utilities section in Maya 2010) to the
    "Standard Bump" input.

    3. In the "Bump 2d" node, assign a "File" 2D texture to the "Bump Value".

    4. In the "Bump 2d" node, adjust Bump Depth to a suitable scalar value.

    5. Adjust UV coordinates.

    6. Export scene using RealityDesigner.

Note that you need RD 3.0.0.55 or later for this to work. If at all possible, please use the mia_material_x material whenever possible for the best conversion result.

    Regards,
    Johan
