    Default the choice of renderers

looks like Mental Ray is going to have some competition now as Vray and FinalRender are now available within Maya.

be interesting to see some render test over the three renderers.

Renderer comparison with images already exists, see :

Yea I’ve seen this but don’t find it very helpful as it’s not consistent enough. They are all done on different machines and are achieving different results.

It would be good if someone tested then all on one machine and used more unified setting.

It would be interesting to see that comparison, but the reservation to that is whoever creates the renders really needs to be famliar with ALL of the packages. Default render settings for different packages are inherently different and don't always play to their strengths.

It brings to mind a Renderman and Mental Ray comparison where there was a huge rendertime difference. Both were rendered at default settings. . .but the default settings weren't the same. Ray depth, samples, optimizations, accuracy, number of rays to cast, etc are all different even if a little.

A true comparison isn't going to be easy to find. One where each renderer is set to achieve the best result at each software's maximum efficiency.

Until then the argument of "best, better, worst" is a moot discussion.
