Default Tesla Q12H-3 ( compute capability 3.0 ). and iray

    Hi ARC experts,

    I have a new « Maximus » hardware prototype called Tesla Q12H-3 ( compute capability 3.0 ).
This hardware might be a target to run iray.
    I have the driver : 304.34
Problem, it is crashing iray 2.0 and 2.1

    • Maya 2013 + iray 2.1 dll + cudart64_40_17d.lll : nrecognized CUDA device
    • MR 3.10 + cudart64_40_17dll : unrecognized CUDA device
    • MR 3.9 : crashing
o IRAY 0.18 error: CUDA device 0 failed during first frame, deactivating it and re-rendering now
o IRAY 0.18 fatal 841500IRAY 0.18 fatal 841500: : interrupted by exception code 0xc0000094 (integer divide by zero) interrupted by exception code 0xc0000094 (integer divide by zero)

    • RealityPlayer 1.1 ( nr 3.1.1 / iray 2.0 ) : crashing

Can someone help on your side ?

    Thanks again guillaume

Well, typically speaking iray versions might not work on newer hardware because it will be changed to operate as best it can on new hardware before release. This is usually more than just a recompile because nVidia adds many more features for each generation to exploit. Probably why you're so interested in trying it!

This has good and bad side-effects:

Good: iray releases are usually timed for OEM products and full hardware support. Many times software will be released with few (or no changes) to support the new hardware quickly. This is why you may not see a performance change or features that take advantage of the newer hardware in some products. This does not appear to be how iray is being developed. As stated on the forum in the iray section, iray will support new hardware once it actually takes advantage of the new hardware features.

Bad: You have to wait for those changes to be made for a supported release.

I suspect that's what is wrong here with prototype hardware. So is it important to have it quickly but not take advantage of the hardware? Or wait to use it once it's actually built for the hardware? This depends on your production needs and ability to upgrade often/quickly. It appears you are very much at the bleeding edge of new hardware.

However, since iray is an important product for nVidia, I wonder if it might be possible to have the integration framework available in a Beta form for these newer platforms. That might be great to have.

    Thanks

Having a technology growing closely with the hardware need to always upgrade to take advantage of innovation.
iray driver should be more flexible with new hardware, hardware drivers should support anterior cuda instructions.
I agree Nvidia should offer some piece of technology with beta hardware, but in our case both Nvidia and Autodesk ( DCC pluhim)
I think there is no chance to see that from Autodesk with their plugins.
Nvidia commercial people want to push latest hardware without taking care of software support.
Especially true for iray.Qualification charts nightmare.

This sounds like a Kepler prototype card (CC 3.0). This is not supported in currently released iray versions, sorry about that. We are working on a solution, together with our ISVs like Autodesk.

    Best, Steve.

    Thanks Steve !

It's a K5K proto supposed to replace the Q5K, it's not a Tesla but eventually joined in a maximus combo with a Tesla.
The problem is not in drivers as i suspected
