    Default demo / template scene

    hello there,

just discovered this awesome material site, I´m just starting to learn mental ray and iray rendering.
just 1 question: where can I download the template scene for the renderings on this site, so that I can try the materials and look if I can get the same result as on the pictures in the library.
    thank you!

    best regards
    john

    Hi John,

Welcome to the MetaSL Material library forum!
I am afraid, the demo scene is not available for download. MetaSL works with different dcc and renderers, but unfortunately the scene does not.

I saw that you posted a second post with a similar request, i assume this was because you wernt able to see your first post (new users need to be approved first). I took the liberty to delete your second post, i hope thats ok with you.

for rendering with mental ray? inside a specific dcc, if so, which? (3dsmax?) What kind of product do you want to show? Depending on the product, the lighting setup would be very different and lighting has the same importance for the rendering as the materials have. So for short, i do not know enough about what you want to achieve and what tools you use to reccomend something.

    hi jan,

thx for your answer, I started with mental ray - only for a single product like a tool or screw, sth like this. For industrial products (images for web and brochures etc. - without environment, just the product).

But I also just read about the new iray materials for 3ds max, so I think I´ll focus now on the the iray material + production renderer, and use the metaSL or iray materials.

    (3ds max design 2013)

    best regards

If your primary goal is iray in max then then the new iray material is the most flexible solution for you. For the scene, just make sure you use physical lights and/or ibl for lighting.
