Please advise how/when multiple material shader support for 3ds max models is or will be available for RealityServer?

Starting with 3dsmax9, the multiple material shader does not write its per-face associations in external data blocks anymore. These data blocks are currently unsupported, hence why the multiple material shader cannot be used within 3dsmax8.
By the way, RealityDesigner for 3dsmax9 will be released soon, and its automatic shader translation will actually work with last generation multiple material techiques.
