View Full Version : 3ds max skylight and daylight system

Dear Sirs,

Iīm firmly at a problem concerning the illumination of a scene with a skylight, not to mention that I would use gladly the 3dsmax integrated daylightsystem. Preliminary iīm using max 2009 and 2010, the current versions for the RD is .55-113173 and the RS .1918, RS AppLab is running both on Linux and Windows.

Let us assume, that thereīs a simple scene consist of a standard skylight and a simple geomerty. Iīve tried the mr physicalsky shader and afterwards a specific exr file in the approbated slot in the skylight setup and ended up both with the indentical error in the realitydesigner output logfile. Not necessary to mention that only the FG is activated for the illumiation precomputing. The Log file pointed out: "RD LOG: warning No shader rule found for light shader "Sky01|SkylightShader" of type "max_TexturedSkylight". Shader will not appear in output." Testing the both scenes onto the server the log file printed everytime "RS LOG: scene graph traversal: ignoring light "_test::main::Sky01|Light" since it has neither a light shader nor a light definition." out. Only if I err, but i remember to read that the skylight is a supported format by the RS. Using none shader in the Skylight didnīt showed a changed in the result. Using a daylight assembly, with the mr physical shader in the enviromental slot, resultsī in a additional warning like "No shader rule found for environment shader "ImageCollector|Effect" of type "max_base_ImageCollector". Shader will not appear in output." The result seems to be the same as already before descriptived.
As far as I understand this misbehavior, itīs primarily a RD problem. Honestly, I am helpless at this point.

Dear b.F,

It appears that the current version of RD lacks the needed translation rules to translate this scene. I will look into this and let you know as soon as I know more.

Same here, I'm struggling with exporting lights/daylight system with no success.
I use multiview template, 3dsMax 2009. Log errors same as described by b.F. Target render engine is iray.


EDIT: Ok, seems like I've messed up Designer and template versions by mistake. So basic lighting works for now.

The warning about max_base_ImageCollector is a bug, i.e. the warning should not be logged. This warning can be safely ignored and should be fixed in the next version of RD. What issues do you have with the Daylight System? I did a quick test here and it seems to get through RD ok?

Dear Johan

Okay Iīm really puzzled the daylight and the GPU woks now. I donīt get this, the last testing concerning the daylightsystem was a completly unsuccesful trial. Propably i tested the daylight with a fomer version. It works fine.
